ABOUT HYDROGEN VEHICLE SYSTEMS LTD
Founded in 2017, and based in Glasgow; Hydrogen Vehicle Systems Ltd is Europe’s only start-up focused on the design and development of zero-emission hydrogen-powered medium commercial vehicles (MCV) and heavy goods vehicles (HGV).
Our team comprises industry specialists, with vast experience in the automotive, energy sustainability and environmental management fields.
The vehicles include numerous innovative & unique features, many of which are protected by a series of patents and registered designs. We have received significant interest from potential customers during our vehicle development phase with current preorders of over 400 units.
MARKET REQUIREMENT
There is currently a strong market pull for zero emission heavy duty transport.
European emission reductions of 15% must be met from 2025 and 30% from 2030. However, diesel vehicles still occupy 97.9% of the truck market, and 92.8% of the van market.
Production and adoption of viable Zero Emission commercial vehicles is not occurring fast enough to meet these targets, heavy duty commercial vehicles contribute disproportionately to Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions.
This sector must evolve and change, for emission targets to be achieved.

We plan to become the first to bring ground-breaking. viable Zero-emission, Long-range, Hydrogen-powered Commercial vehicles to the UK and European market.
We are a focused Systems Integrator, combining the latest technology from around the world with our innovative vehicle designs.
Our experienced team of automotive, energy sustainability and environmental specialists along with our advanced engagement with cutting edge global technology suppliers enable us to translate our concepts into reality.
FUNDING REQUIRED FOR
- Launch of HVS Beta (chassis cab MCV) in November 2022
- Launch of HVS Alpha X (HGV artic tractor) in April 2023
- Opening of their Research and Development Centre in 2022 at Horiba Mira Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Although not directly raised via the P2NZ App the contribution of David and Mark to the business and in particular David’s support allowed Hydrogen Vehicle Systems Ltd to progress with the following product programme and business development.
Since David and Mark’s involvement their efforts have resulted in circa £22 million of grant support via Innovate UK and a commitment of between £10M and £13M by Scottish Enterprise should Hydrogen Vehicle Systems Ltd build their low volume manufacturing facility and R&D Hub / HQ in Scotland.
P2NZ CLOSING STATEMENT
Both Mark and David can remember fondly their initial meeting with Hydrogen Vehicle Systems Ltd on the September bank holiday Monday in Glasgow . When they left they turned to each other outside and said “gosh we weren’t expecting that!” followed shortly thereafter by “we must help these guys”. Since then in 2019 it has been a joy and pleasure to watch this young start up in Glasgow grow with a current company valuation of £70M since its formation in 2017.
